What Republicans Don't Understand

The debt crisis shows that the Republican party members in Washington just don't understand the normal existence of normal Americans. When we are having tough times because we don't have enough money, what do we do ? For one thing, we cut our expenses. We eat hamburger instead of steak, or pasta instead of hamburger. We stop going to restaurants. We make sure the lights in our homes are off when we don't need them. We skip going on a vacation. We cut, cut, cut our expenses.

But it doesn't stop there.

We also try to increase our income. For millions of Americans these days, this means taking a part-time job. In the debt crisis situation, this is the equivalent of closing tax loopholes and ending tax breaks for oil companies and the very rich.

We should not lose sight of the ultimate goal of the ideologically-driven Republicans. It is nothing less than eliminating most of what government does by eliminating most of the government.

This just in: An e-mail from our Jamaican correspondent tells us that if there were an election in Jamaica right now for our elected representatives, 98% of them would vote Democratic. Everyone is watching because this debt crisis affects the entire world.

The only thing you as a citizen of the United States can do is to let Speaker Boehner and Senator McConnell know how you feel by calling them. It will only take a minute and it will increase the pressure on them. Call now ! Boehner: 202-225-6205 Mcconnell: 202-224-2541.

  1. What you have lost sight of is that after the economy is fixed, the government is not going to go away. After we are all making money again, government is still going to be 2x as large and 2x as expensive and that means you will be paying more taxes. Lots more taxes.
Democrats are looking for tremendous tax hikes (hundreds of billions of dollars) to fix the problems but that will not get you a job (or me either) Smaller government means less taxes, a balanced budget, money for business to expand and hire more people, less burden on you so that the American dream is a possibility again, restoration of our freedoms as Americans and the end of socialistic/communistic parties trying to take away everything America stands for.
Communist China and other countries are paying our bills right now. If they decide to cash in, what is going to happen here?

You want more government and more debt when we are already trillions in debt to other countries? I cannot say it enough... more money in welfare to help the people is not going to create jobs. We need jobs and to do that, we need less government... so we keep more of our money (tax reform)... so we can create more jobs (fewer gov. restrictions on expanding business)... less money going out aid other countries (especially hostile countries) to bring jobs home here.
Nothing is free. You want free healthcare, well, that costs you 30% of your income. You want free college education too? that means government gets 40% of your income. Look at socialist countries and what they pay in taxes and you will change your mind on what you want. It is not the RICH costing you jobs and a way of life, it is government. Giving government more power means you pay more. You will lose money, freedom, and the American dream forever. Consider what the consequences are before you act.

  2. While I disagree with much of what you say and feel it is based on a faulty vision of what government spending really does, why I would really like to have you tell us is your vision of what America was before we allegedly lost all the freedoms you cherish. Can you give us a date when America once was what you want it to be again ?What is your vision of America's "Golden Age" anyway, Bill.

  3. America was headed in the right direction until politicians decided to disregard the restriction of powers instituted by our founding fathers. This is not about going back to some fictitious time when all was right with America, this is about correcting the violations against the people by a government that does not observe the Constitutional laws designed to protect us.

Social Security, medicaid and medicare are all bankrupt systems showing why government was restricted from actions like this in the Constitution. Regulate and take-over are two very different ideas yet the fed has been taking over which is not what it is designed to do.

Obama care was created from health care systems already implemented by MA. and UT. If the states already had the ability to design healthcare system for the people, then it is the people who needed to utilize their voice to get similar programs for their states, not the feds job to mandate a system for all. If Obama had passed a bill that mandated the availability of all healthcare programs to every US citizen and that no one could be denied coverage due to preexisting conditions (without a bunch or garbage attached to the bill), then there would not be 28 states fighting the fed in the courts. In other words, had Obama respected states rights and the Constitution, we would not have the court system tied up at further expense to the people.
Fixing government means getting government out of the drivers seat in the private sector. The fed cannot even secure our border, a task directly mandated of them by the Constitution.

The people are supposed to have a voice, have the ability to help effect change, and their greatest voice is in their state. Federal government expanding takes that right away from the people (passing a healthcare system the people do not want). We are not looking to go back to some utopia that never existed, we want our rights and voice back where they belong. We want to be able to afford our federal government and let the people of our state decide if "mandated health care" is for us or if we want a different health care system that is more inline with our needs.

Last note... Federal government owns more land in some states than the states own. I understand that preserving our national forests is a wonderful idea, but I do not believe Federal government should own that land anymore. It is the states land for the state to protect and preserve. It is not Federal government land. States should make the decisions how to best preserve/ utilize those lands. States should have the jobs related to preserving those lands and receive the revenue from those utilizing the land. Government by the people, not federal government on the people.
